Ogbono soup
What is Ogbono Soup?
Ogbono soup is a Nigerian dish made with grounded ogbono
seeds.
Besides the seeds, water and oil, it typically contains leaf
vegetables, other vegetables, seasoning and meat.
Ingredients
for Ogbono Soup
450g grounded ogbono seed
1kg assorted meats (ponmo, bushmeat etc)
Crayfish
Grounded pepper
Locust beans (iru)
1 sliced onion
Palm oil
Stockfish
Smoked fish
Meat stock
Salt
Materials

2 Cooking pots
Water
Method
of Preparations
-Wash the assorted meats thoroughly and place in a pot
-Add the sliced onions and some meat stock (omi eran) or
water, cook for about 20 minutes
-Add the washed stockfish and smoked fish and cook for another
5 minutes
-In another pot, heat the oil and fry the grounded ogbono
seeds for 3 minutes to bring out the flavor
-Gradually add the cooked meat, stock fish, and crayfish
-Add grounded pepper and mix together
-Wash the locust beans and add to the soup
-Allow it to cook for another 10 minutes
-Check if the seasoning is enough and serve hot with pounded
yam
